Wood Care

Wood Care

Solid teak furniture is naturally strong, durable, and long-lasting. With simple regular care, your Timbercraft furniture will continue to age beautifully and develop a rich character over time.

Everyday Care

Clean your furniture with a soft, dry cotton cloth. For light dust or fingerprints, use a slightly damp cloth and immediately wipe dry with a clean cloth.

Avoid using harsh chemical cleaners, bleach, strong detergents, or abrasive scrubbing pads, as they can damage the finish and reduce the natural beauty of the wood.

Protect From Excess Water

Teak is a durable hardwood, but finished furniture should not be exposed to standing water or excess moisture.

Wipe spills immediately, especially tea, coffee, alcohol, oil, or coloured liquids. Do not allow water to remain on the surface for long periods.

For dining tables and coffee tables, we recommend using coasters, placemats, and table mats during daily use.

Avoid Direct Heat

Do not place hot vessels, pans, or cups directly on the wooden surface. Always use heat-resistant mats or coasters.

Avoid placing furniture very close to radiators, heaters, or areas with extreme heat. Sudden temperature changes may affect the wood and finish over time.

Sunlight & Natural Colour Change

Natural teak wood may slowly change colour when exposed to sunlight. This is normal and part of the ageing process of real wood.

To maintain an even tone, avoid placing furniture in harsh direct sunlight for long periods. If your furniture is near a bright window, rotate decorative items occasionally so the surface ages evenly.

Humidity & Seasonal Movement

Solid wood naturally expands and contracts slightly with changes in humidity and temperature. This is normal for real wood furniture.

Keep the furniture in a well-ventilated indoor space. Avoid placing it in damp corners or areas with continuous moisture.

Upholstery & Cushions

For upholstered furniture, vacuum gently using a soft brush attachment. Clean spills immediately by blotting with a clean dry cloth. Do not rub harshly, as this may spread the stain or damage the fabric texture.

For deeper stains, professional upholstery cleaning is recommended.

Cane, Rattan & Brass Details

For cane or rattan panels, dust regularly with a soft brush or dry cloth. Avoid wet cleaning, as excess moisture can weaken natural cane over time.

For brass caps, inlay, or accents, wipe gently with a soft dry cloth. Avoid strong metal polish unless specifically advised, as it may affect surrounding wood or finish.

Moving Furniture

Always lift furniture while moving it. Do not drag tables, beds, sofas, or chairs across the floor, as this may damage the legs, joints, or flooring.

For large furniture, use two or more people and support the piece properly from the base.

Long-Term Maintenance

Over time, natural wood furniture may benefit from professional polishing or refinishing, depending on usage. If your furniture begins to look dry, dull, scratched, or worn, contact Timbercraft for guidance before applying any oil, polish, or chemical product.
